Infinity Supercritical Extraction Test of No Botanicals Basket With Cascade Hops 30/30 Minute Run Time

May 2018 testing by Infinity Supercritical to determine extraction without a basket in a short 30/30 minute cycle time. The theory is that most of the extraction happens in the first 30-45 minutes using the Infinity Supercritical FlowBar (CO2 distribution) and Electrostatic Precipitation.

Video of Extraction: Cascade Hops 30/30 Extraction Without Botanicals Basket Supercritical CO2 Extraction

Equipment Configuration: Infinity Supercritical 10L Vertical Extraction, 40:1 Gearbox, TriboTube Down Tubes (for electrostatic precipitation), Flow Bar, Small Heat Exchanger, No Basket, Insulated Chiller Lines, Chiller set to 30 F, PID’s, Stock Valves, Check Valve, PID Controlling Pressure in Reservoir (set to 715 psi).

Processing Test Run Dynamics: Infinity Supercritical Cascade Hops botanical oil extraction. 454 grams of Cascade hops were put into the extraction vessel and 30 minute extraction, stopped cycle, and then resumed for another 30 minutes extraction. The break allows the botanicals to rest, which seems to decrease overall extraction time. The total extraction time was 60 minutes. The total time for entire process was 2.25 hours (start to finish). In a production run facility, multiple machines would be staggered, so that the total cycle time and loading/unloading, could be minimized so that the 2.25 hours would be reduced to near an hour. Run was without the use of the botanicals basket. Compare to run #158 where total collected extraction was 65 grams.

Since botanicals had to be collected by hand or shop vac, there is a difference between the botanical EV weight (before/after) compared to extracted oil. Machine ran well with no stalls, lower than normal flow rate. Good yield, all in CC1. Botanical is approximate (hard to be exact to measure exit weight with no basket). Extract had good yellow color. Hops appeared to be broken up, no longer whole leaf.
